What is a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)?

Head injuries include various types of damage to the head, including the scalp, skull, and brain. They can range from minor cuts and bruises to severe Traumatic brain injuries (TBIs).

A Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) is a type of acquired brain injury caused by a sudden, external physical assault on the brain. This “assault” can be a bump, blow, or jolt to the head, or an object penetrating the skull and entering the brain tissue.

TBI is a major public health concern, being a leading cause of disability and death worldwide. It can result in both short-term and long-term functional impairment, ranging in severity from mild to severe.
